Pope Francis’ homily at the closing Mass for the 2013 WYD

Over 3 million pilgrims gathered on the Copacabana beach, July 28, 2013, for the Mass presided by Pope Francis which concluded the 28th World Youth Day (WYD), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In his homily, the Holy Father invited all youth to become missionaries, offering them three words: “Go, do not be afraid, and serve.” At the end of the celebration, he announced that the next WYD will be in 2016, in Krakow, Poland. The Canadian delegation to Brazil involved 1,153 youth and eight Bishops, including the President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), the Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton.
