legattLast week, on October 18, 2013, the members of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL) were received in audience by Pope Francis. Among those present was the Most Reverend Albert LeGatt, Archbishop of Saint-Boniface, who is the representative of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) on this International Commission. The members of ICEL were in Rome to mark the 50th anniversary of its founding. In his address, the Holy Father said: “The present anniversary is an occasion for giving thanks for the work which the Commission has accomplished over the past 50 years in providing English translations of the texts of the liturgy, but also in advancing the study, understanding and appropriation of the Church’s rich sacramental and euchological tradition.”  A euchology is a collection of texts for celebrations of the liturgy and the sacraments.
