Salt + Light TV interfaith program on palliative care
Wednesday, April 26, 2017Salt + Light TV will air an interfaith panel discussion on palliative care as part of its “Perspectives Weekly” program this Friday, 28 April 2017, at 7:00 p.m. The panelists, each representing one of the Abrahamic traditions, are: His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto; Rabbi Baruch Frydman-Kohl, Co-Chair of the Canadian Rabbinic Caucus; and Imam Dr. Abdul Hai Patel, The Canadian Council of Imams. The panelists will be exploring how the sacred texts of their respective religious traditions guide their approaches to end of life issues, including suffering and palliative care.
Recently, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), signed a joint interfaith letter calling for a national palliative care strategy for Canada. The letter was released as an op-ed in The Hill Times, a weekly newspaper covering government and federal politics on Parliament Hill. The other signatories were: Mr. Bruce Clemenger, President, The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC); Mr. Shimon Koffler Fogel, CEO, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA); and Imam Sikander Hashmi, Canadian Council of Imams.
