Logo_Year_of_Faith_2012-2013Pope Benedict XVI presided at a Mass today in front of Saint Peter’s Basilica, in Rome, for the solemn opening of the Year of Faith. The celebration with the Holy Father marks not only the opening of the Year of Faith, but also the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The four Canadian Bishops who are delegates to the Synod on the New Evangelization were among those assisting at the celebration. The Year of Faith will be celebrated from October 11, 2012, to November 24, 2013. Dioceses across Canada and around the world will be celebrating this year in various ways.

One Canadian initiative for the Year of Faith is “The Church Alive” television series on Salt and Light Television Network. The show premieres on Salt and Light Television on October 11, 2012.  The 15-part series, produced for the Year of Faith and the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, will share perspectives and stories on the New Evangelization in the Church today.  The series has been filmed in Canada, the USA and several other places around the world.
