Toronto priest named Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Baghdad

yousifabbaPope Benedict XVI has consented to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Syriac Catholic Church of Chorbishop Yousif Abba as the new Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Baghdad, Iraq.  The Archbishop-elect was born in Qaraqosh, Iraq, in 1951, and ordained to the priesthood in 1978. In July 1997, Father Yousif Abba came to Canada and was assigned as pastor of Saint Joseph Syriac Catholic Church in Toronto, until his recent election as Archbishop.
