CCCB President Bishop Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., writes to President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops following clashes in Charlottesville
Your Eminence,
I am writing to ensure you of my prayers and to express sincere condolences on the part of the Bishops of Canada regarding the recent violent protests and tragic attack in Charlottesville, Virginia. Such violence, and the hatred that lies behind it, has no place in any just society. Faced with racism and other offences to the inviolable dignity of the human person created in God’s image, the Church can only continue to proclaim the truth in love while praying earnestly for all.
Finally, I am likewise deeply saddened to have heard of the passing of the Most Rev. Francis Xavier DiLorenzo, Bishop of Richmond. Be assured that we lift up fervent prayers for his soul and for the diocese he has served faithfully. Requiescat in pace.
Fraternally in Christ and Mary Immaculate,
(Most Rev.) Douglas Crosby, OMI
Bishop of Hamilton
President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops
