(CCCB – Ottawa)… The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) will hold its annual Plenary Assembly in Cornwall, Ontario, 16-20 October 2006.

Plenary 2006 (CCCB – Ottawa)… The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) will hold its annual Plenary Assembly in Cornwall, Ontario, 16-20 October 2006.

More than 80 bishops from across Canada are expected to attend the meeting to review pastoral activities from the past year, and to discuss the projects and activities of the Conference.

Among the topics on the agenda this year is CCCB restructuring. A discussion that already began last year, the aim of this review is to reorganize the Episcopal Conference in order to respond better to current ecclesial needs. Along with current issues of Conference business, such as the budget and reports from the various commissions, the Bishops will also receive a progress report on preparations for the International Eucharistic Congress to be held in Quebec City in 2008.

The Bishops of Canada will also be welcoming His Eminence Theodore Edgar Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop emeritus of Washington, D.C., who will speak on Catholic involvement in public life and the social doctrine of the Church.

A number of guests – clergy, members of Catholic organizations and other Christian Churches – are also invited to participate in these meetings as observers. Internet users can follow the proceedings by reading the media releases and reports published regularly on the CCCB website (www.cccb.ca).

The CCCB was created by and for the bishops over 60 years ago, to assist them in common efforts in pastoral work and in facing the major challenges in the contemporary Church and society.
