ADVISORY: Death of Most Reverend Antoine Hacault Archbishop of Saint Boniface

Most Reverend Antoine Hacault, Archbishop of Saint Boniface, died on April 13, 2000, at the Saint Boniface General Hospital. He was 74 years old.

Born in Brussells, Manitoba, Archbishop Hacault was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1951. During his priesthood, he held many positions in the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface. In 1962 he was appointed as a peritus at the Second Vatican Council. In 1964 the Holy Father appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Saint Boniface where he was ordained to the episcopate by his predecessor, Archbishop Maurice Baudoux, on September 8, 1964. On October 28, 1972, he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop, and then Archbishop of Saint Boniface on September 7, 1974.

During his episcopacy, Archbishop Hacault worked tirelessly at the CCCB: he was a member of the Pastoral Team (1973-1977 and 1983-1987); member of the Commission for Missions (1977-1981); member of the Commissions for Ecumenism and Non-Believers (1979-1983); Chairman of the Commission for Ecumenism (1983- 1985); member of the French Sector Commission de liturgie (1987-1993); member of the French Sector Commission des communications sociales(1991-1995), and since 1995, Chairman of the French Sector Commission de liturgie.

Archbishop Hacault also held positions at the regional and provincial levels, as well as in the Roman Curia.
