Cardinal Ouellet leaves for Rome; Bishop Lacroix is elected Diocesan Administrator of the Archdiocese of Quebec City
Friday, August 27 2010Most Reverend Gérald Cyprien Lacroix was elected on 26 August 2010 Diocesan Administrator of the Archdiocese of Quebec City. He will ensure the leadership of the Archdiocese until a new Archbishop is appointed.
On 24 August 2010, His Eminence Marc Cardinal Ouellet, who had been serving as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese, left for Rome where the Holy Father has appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
Bishop Lacroix has been Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec City since May 2009. Previously, has headed the Pius X Secular Institute. Currently, he is on the Executive Council of the World Conference of Secular Institutes and also serves as a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Life and Family of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The Archdiocese of Quebec City has a Catholic population of 917,045 in 223 parishes and missions, served by 432 diocesan priests, 283 priests who are members of religious orders, 90 permanent deacons, 3,393 religious Brothers and Sisters and 80 lay pastoral agents.
