CCCB issues list of pastoral and practical recommendations in Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini of Pope Benedict XVI

Verbum_Domini_English(CCCB – Ottawa)… The Commission for Doctrine of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has now posted on the CCCB Website a text focusing on the pastoral and practical applications of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini, including a complete listing of the various recommendations found throughout the Exhortation. The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI had published his Post-Synodal text in September 2010, following the Synod of Bishops on the Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church. Following a consultation of CCCB members on priorities for the National Commissions, the CCCB Permanent Council had invited the Commission for Doctrine to prepare this resource which is available only on-line.

The Commission notes that the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini is different from many other papal documents in that it made numerous recommendations of a pastoral and/or practical nature. The Commission for Doctrine lists all the recommendations, which apply variously to all the Church – including both clergy and laity – and arranges them according to a topical index so they may be easily accessed. The recommendations are organized according to the topics they touch on: Clergy, Education, Liturgy, Living out God’s Word, Parish Facilities, and Prayer and Devotions.

The Commission hopes its on-line resource may help all those who serve in the Church to put  the recommendations into practice.
