Marie Deans named National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

The Congregation for the Evangelization of People has appointed Ms. Marie Deans of Willowdale, Ontario, as National Director of the Canadian English Sector of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), a Catholic world Missionary organization which directly assists the Holy Father to bring the Good News to the world and especially to the poor.

Marie Deans(CCCB – Ottawa)… The Congregation for the Evangelization of People has appointed Ms. Marie Deans of Willowdale, Ontario, as National Director of the Canadian English Sector of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS). She succeeds Sister Leona Spencer, C.S.J., who recently completed her second five-year and final term as National Director.

An educational administrator, a religious education specialist and a teacher of world issues, Ms. Deans has served in the Toronto Catholic District School Board as principal, vice principal, department head and teacher.  She holds a master’s degree in education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education as well as a diploma in dispute resolution, and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Toronto, together with an honours bachelor of arts from the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto.

Ms. Dean has been active in parish and community outreach, including as a marriage preparation facilitator and lector, a minister for Communion and for children’s liturgies, and a member of the parish council, in addition to helping to prepare meals for the Good Shepherd Refuge.

The Pontifical Mission Societies is a Catholic world Missionary organization which directly assists the Holy Father to bring the Good News to the world and especially to the poor. The offices of the English Sector PMS in Canada are located in Toronto and the ones of the French Sector are in Montreal.
