National Parish Mission — March 5-7, 2000 on VISION TV

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, March 5, 6, and 7, 2000 Catholic parishes throughout English-speaking Canada will have the opportunity to participate in a unique experiment using the power of television in a National Mission under the banner: “An Invitation to Return”.

Up until 30 years ago the Mission was an annual event in Catholic parishes everywhere. It was an occasion to stir up the fires of faith, re-examine priorities in the light of the Gospel and reaffirm commitments to Christ.  "An Invitation to Return", in cooperation with dioceses across Canada, now resurrects and revolutionizes the concept.

The Mission will be led by Most Rev. Paul André Durocher, Auxiliary Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie, and supported by music, readings and dramatizations. It will originate from Blessed Sacrament Church in Chatham, Ontario, and be broadcast on Vision TV across the Nation.

People are encouraged to view the three one-hour programs at home or in their church halls in the company of friends and neighbours. Then on the fourth night, Ash Wednesday, the Mission will culminate with ceremonies in their own parish church under the guidance of their local pastor.
