Presentation on Instruction Dignitas Personae

Friday, December 12 2008

This morning in the Holy See Press Office there was a presentation on the Instruction of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Dignitas Personae on certain bioethical questions.

The Instruction forms part of the ordinary Magisterium of the Pope and is of a doctrinal nature.  It encourages biomedical investigation that respects the dignity of all human beings and of procreation.

The document contributes to the formation of conscience, not only of believers but all those who are open to the argument as presented.

Dignitas Personae deals with questions such as techniques involved in assisting fertility, in vitro fertilization, the freezing of embryos and eggs, embryo reduction, and pre-implant diagnosis.
