Reverend William Burke is new Associate Director of the National Liturgy Office

Reverend William (“Bill”) Burke(CCCB – Ottawa)… The English Sector National Liturgy Office of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has a new Associate Director in the person of .

He will succeed Father Camille Jacques, O.S.M., who has been called to serve the Servants of Mary, his religious order, in Rome until November 2007. The Servites will be holding their General Chapter in October 2007 and Father Jacques was invited by his order’s General Prior to join the team preparing this major event. He will also be working in their secretariat during the chapter. He plans to return to the CCCB in mid-November 2007.

The Servites will be holding their General Chapter in October 2007 and Father Jacques was invited by his order’s General Prior to join the team preparing this major event. He will also be working in their secretariat during the chapter. He plans to return to the CCCB in mid-November 2007.

While Father Jacques is away, Father Burke will also serve as Acting Director of the National Liturgy Office. A native of Main-à-Dieu, Nova Scotia, he has served as a parish priest for almost 30 years since his ordination to the priesthood in July 1977. During that time he has been also a member of the Liturgical Commission of the Diocese of Antigonish.

Father Burke has a master’s degree in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. For the last 25 years he has conducted liturgical workshops, parish missions and retreats throughout Canada. Since 1997 he has also served as a chaplain with the RCMP in the province of Nova Scotia.

In September 2004, he was appointed the director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of Antigonish and also serves on the editorial consulting board for the periodical Celebrate. He has published articles in Celebrate, the National Bulletin on Liturgy and the Atlantic Catholic.
