Say Yes To Life!: COLF Celebrates the Fifth Anniversary of Evangelium Vitae

Saturday, March 25 2000

Ottawa (CCCB) — The Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) has released a message entitled Say Yes to Life! on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical letter Evangelium Vitae.

Founded as a joint project of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Knights of Columbus, COLF is issuing the message to underline that human life is “a gift beyond all measure” and to restate its profound belief that all human beings have a fundamental right to life.

Following the example of the Holy Father, the organization is urging decision makers “to adopt legislation, social policies and economic choices” that promote and support respect for human life, more particularly when it is most vulnerable, whether at its beginning or end.

The message points out the current issues surrounding life (euthanasia, assisted suicide, new reproductive technologies and abortion); proposes ways to reflect on them; urges Christians to make choices that promote life; and affirms the many people and groups committed to the defence and promotion of human life.

“Two thousand years ago, he (Jesus) came into this world so that we could have life and to its full (Jn 10:10). We must say yes to life!” concludes the message that may be found in its entirety on the COLF web site at: http://colf.cccb.ca/.
