The CCCB has a New Advisor in Social Justice

(CCCB – Ottawa)… The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) added a new member to its General Secretariat team with the recent hiring of Mr. Michael Markwick as senior advisor in social justice.

Mr. Markwick holds a BA in philosophy and religious studies from Saint Michael’s College, University of Toronto, and is completing a doctorate from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, where he has taught. He previously worked for the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

He will participate actively in the work of the CCCB, specifically with the Episcopal Commission for Social Affairs. As senior advisor in the Office of Justice, Peace and Missions, Michael Markwick will coordinate consultations, research and analysis of social justice issues with Catholic, ecumenical and interfaith groups, as well as with non-religious organizations.

Since the Office of Justice, Peace and Missions is responsible for two other pastoral areas, Mr. Markwick will also work closely with the Episcopal Commission for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Council for Reconciliation, Solidarity and Communion with Aboriginal Peoples.

Other Nomination

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has also retained the services of Sister Lorraine Caza, C.N.D., as consultant with the Episcopal Commissions for Theology and Christian Unity. A member of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal, Sister Caza holds a doctorate in theology and is also a professor, author and well-known speaker.
