Two New Appointments at the Canadian Conference of Catholic BishopsThursday, April 03 1997
Ottawa (CCCB) — Mr. Sylvain Salvas has been named the new French language Public Relations Director at the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. He replaces Mr. Gérald Baril who was recently appointed French language Assistant General Secretary.
Mr. Salvas, a native of Sorel, Québec, studied communications at the University of Quebec in Montreal and at the University of Ottawa. He has worked as a journalist in both the print and electronic media in the Montérégie region of Quebec and has served as Director of Communications for the Diocese of Saint Hyacinthe since 1986.
Mr. Salvas will take up his post on April 21. He is married and the father of two daughters.
Mr. Baril began his new duties at the end of January and has been with the CCCB since June 1993. Before then he served in a public relations capacity with the Canadian Forces and with NATO. He is a native of Quebec City and studied at Laval University, the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, the US Defence Information School and the Dominican College in Ottawa.
Mr. Baril took over from Mr. Fernand Tanguay who retired as Assistant General Secretary. He had held the post since 1993.
