(CCCB- Ottawa)… The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated in Canada from 21 to 28 January 2007.

The Canadian dates and theme are not necessarily the same as others internationally, with the dates, in some countries, being 18 to 25 January.

The year’s international theme and the biblical focus text, are prepared by an international Joint Committee of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Commission for the Promotion of Christian Unity. National and regional councils of Churches work to adapt and add to these resources as appropriate to their local context. The Canadian resources, inspired by the theme adapted for Canada, “Be Opened”, were produced by an ecumenical committee, coordinated by the Commission on Faith and Witness of the Canadian Council of Churches.

To mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Pope Benedict XVI will preside at the celebration of Vespers in St. Paul’s Basilica Outside-the-Walls, on Thursday, January 25, Feast of the Conversion of the Apostle Paul.
