Ecclesiastical Provinces
In order to foster cooperation and common pastoral action within a specific region, dioceses and eparchies are organized into ecclesiastical provinces. These are led by one of that region’s Bishops who is the Archbishop or Metropolitan. His own diocese / eparchy is officially referred to as an Archdiocese or Archeparchy; however, he has no immediate jurisdiction over the other dioceses (“suffragan dioceses”).
