Pope Francis appoints Cardinal Lacroix to a Congregation and two Councils of the Holy See

lacroixToday, May 22, 2014, the Holy Father appointed His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec and Primate of the Church in Canada, as a member of the following dicasteries of the Holy See: the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life; the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue; and the Pontifical Council for Culture.

Previously, at the end of April, the former Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima announced that the Holy Father had appointed Cardinal Lacroix to a commission of three Cardinals with the mission of finding a “final, consensual solution, ‘in the framework of the Apostolic Constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae’, to the outstanding issues” regarding a possible restoration of the university’s designation as “pontifical” and “Catholic”. The other two members of the commission are Hungarian Cardinal Peter Erdo, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, and Chilean Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati Andrello, Archbishop of Santiago. Cardinal Lacroix was elevated to the College of Cardinals on February 22, 2014.
