Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches at the Dicastery for Evangelization, has appointed Bishop John A. Boissonneau, Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto, as the Director pro tempore of the Pontifical Mission Societies for English.

This appointment is effective from June 29, 2024, through January 31, 2026. Bishop Boissonneau will maintain his responsibilities within the Archdiocese of Toronto while he assumes this role.

Established in 1922, the Pontifical Mission Societies, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, are instrumental in supporting mission needs and raising awareness of global mission work. Their initiatives include rebuilding churches and pastoral centers damaged by natural disasters, creating religious formation houses, providing clergy housing, offering formation programs for lay missionaries, producing media content, and supporting pastoral efforts in remote and rural dioceses.
