Children: A Gift to the World

The leaflet emphasizes the important place of the child within our society and invites families to appreciate and celebrate life by reflecting on the miracle of each and every child who is “a promise of grace and a blessing.”

“Every time a child is born, God tells us he does not despair of humanity,” says the Indian poet Tagore. Giving life allows God to express hope for humanity. The child testifies to the creative presence of God in the world.

The document describes the arrival of a child as “the birth of a family” and the family as “the oldest of social organizations” and “a work in progress that must be built day by day.”

COLF is a joint project of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Knights of Columbus to promote respect for human life and dignity and the essential role of the family.
