Apostolic Nunciature

Apostolic Nunciature to Canada

An Apostolic Nunciature, which is headed by a titular Archbishop with the additional title of Nuncio, is the office in a host country which assists the Holy See both in its diplomatic service as well as in its service to the dioceses/eparchies located within the host country.

In addition to serving as ambassador of the Holy See, the Nuncio is therefore also a representative of the pope to the Bishops and other faithful living within the territory of the host country. His ecclesiastical functions include making recommendations to the Congregation for Bishops, a department within the Roman Curia, as part of process of advising the Holy Father on possible episcopal appointments within the host country.

In Canada, the Apostolic Nunciature is located in the national’s capital, Ottawa.
