Standing Committee for Responsible Ministry
Mandate
The Standing Committee for Responsible Ministry and the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults is a consultative body established within the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) by a resolution of the 2018 Plenary Assembly of Bishops.
This Standing Committee is mandated to provide the appropriate CCCB bodies with researched-based information, insights, and recommendations on questions and concerns related to clergy sexual abuse; to address the issues of healing and prevention comprehensively in recognition of their full impact on victims, families, local communities, society and religious faith; and to do so in a manner fully consistent with federal and provincial/ territorial laws in Canada.
In addition to Bishops and victims-survivors, the Standing Committee is composed of professionals who are qualified in areas related to the Committee’s mandate, such as safeguarding, law and psychology. The CCCB’s President and General Secretary are ex officio members of the Standing Committee.
In the spirit of transparency, the names of the Bishops appointed for a first three-year term are provided below. For privacy reasons, the other members are designated only by their area of experience or professional competence.
