Statement Summer Jobs 2018-6-webOver the past weeks, many faith groups, including the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), have expressed their alarm about recent changes by the federal government to the Canada Summer Jobs program which infringe on the fundamental Charter rights and freedoms of conscience, religion, thought, belief, opinion and expression. The CCCB published its first statement about these concerns on 11 January 2018, and subsequently signed an interfaith statement which was released on 25 January at a news conference in Toronto where His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, represented the Conference. A number of other Catholic Bishops have also published letters or statements. The CCCB has put together a list of statements issued by Catholic dioceses, as well as by other faith groups, together with a summary listing of media coverage and opinion (updated as of 9 February 2018).
