The Most Reverend Kenneth Nowakowski Appointed Eparchial Bishop for the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London (United Kingdom)

nowakowskiToday, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed the Most Reverend Kenneth Nowakowski, currently Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of New Westminster, as Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, an area that includes Ukrainian Catholics in England, Wales and Scotland. Pope Francis likewise appointed the Most Reverend David Motiuk, Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton, Apostolic Administrator “sede vacante” of the Eparchy of New Westminster.

Following his ordination to the priesthood for the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon in 1989, Bishop Nowakowski served in a number of pastoral ministries in Canada and Ukraine. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Chief of Staff to His Beatitude Myroslav Ivan Cardinal Lubachivsky, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and Major Archbishop of Lviv of the Ukrainians (1990-1995). While in Ukraine, he founded and served as President of Caritas Ukraine (1994-2001). He returned to Canada to serve as Rector of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Seminary in Ottawa (2001-2007) and was appointed the position of press officer/spokesperson of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada (2002-2007). Prior to his appointment as Ukrainian Eparchial Bishop of New Westminster in 2007, he served as Chancellor of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon (2006-2007).

As a member of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), Bishop Nowakowski served as a member of the Episcopal Commission for Christian Unity, Religious Relations with the Jews, and Interfaith Dialogue (2011-2014), and the Standing Committee for Development and Peace (2014-2020).

The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London has 15 parishes and 20 missions with a Catholic population of approximately 13,500 served by 16 priests and one Sister1, who is a member of an institute of consecrated life.

The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of New Westminster has 12 parishes and missions with a Catholic population of 1,200 served by 14 diocesan priests, three priests and two Sisters who are members of institutes of consecrated life.

The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton has 84 parishes and missions with a Catholic population of 5,087 served by 30 diocesan priests, nine priests who are members of institutes of consecrated life, four permanent deacons, as well as six Brothers and 14 Sisters who are members of institutes of consecrate life.
