Most Rev. Richard Grecco Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of London
Friday, December 05 1997(CCCB-Ottawa) …The Holy See earlier today announced the appointment of Father Richard Grecco as Auxiliary Bishop of London. Bishop-elect Grecco will assist the current Bishop of London, the Most Rev. John M. Sherlock.
At the time of his nomination, Bishop-elect Grecco, 53, was serving as Vicar General of the diocese of St. Catharines, Ontario, a position he has held since 1995. He has also been Pastor of St. Alfred’s parish in the diocese of St. Catharines since 1994. Bishop-elect Grecco holds a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome and a doctorate in theology from the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto. He has served as professor of moral theology at St. Joseph’s College, University of Alberta (1992-1994), St. Michael’s College, Toronto (1988-1992) and St. Augustine’s Seminary, Toronto (1981-1985) where he served also as spiritual director and moderator of seminars for theological reflection (1977-1981). Born in St. Catharines, the new Auxiliary Bishop has also served his native diocese as director of the Office of Religious Education, (1981-1989).
The Diocese of London is the sixth largest in Canada in terms of population with 414,000 Catholics in 172 parishes and missions.
