Red Cross Launches Operation Ice Storm: CCCB President Appeals for Generosity
Friday, January 16 1998(Ottawa — CCCB) The Canadian Red Cross today launched “Operation Ice Storm” in a bid to raise money to help the numerous victims of the disastrous ice storm that struck four Canadian provinces last week.
Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and Archbishop of Montreal, one of the areas affected by the ice storm, called on people to show their generosity toward those severely affected by this major crisis. At the news conference announcing the special Red Cross fund, Cardinal Turcotte noted the tremendous support shown by his brother bishops from across Canada.
