World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2024

OTTAWA, 29 September, 2024 — “God walks with His people” is the theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 110th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR), which this year is commemorated on 29 September 2024.

“In response to Pope Francis’ statement for World Migrants Day 2024, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) strongly endorse his request to recognize the dignity of all migrants,” said Bishop William T. McGrattan, Bishop of Calgary and President of the CCCB. “We recognize the pressing need to build an inclusive society, one in which the presence and contributions of migrants’ are both valued and respected. Communities prosper when they are open to receive the other into their midst, and we encourage local parishes and communities to actively participate in welcoming events.

We also want to highlighted the Pope’s concerns about the obstacles that migrants encounter, including displacement and exploitation. We believe that by encouraging collaboration and compassion, communities can build a more equitable and socially responsible world for everyone.”

The Catholic faithful are invited to contact their respective Diocese or Eparchy to learn more about local events to mark the World Day or Migrants and Refugees.

The Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the 110th World Migrant and Refugee Day is available in many languages on Vatican’s web.

We also encourage you to visit the World Day of Migrants and Refugees’ website to access resources, including posters and videos, provided by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
